Meet the real life sleeping beauty whose rare sleep disorder saw her snooze through CHRISTMAS. In December 2013, student Gemma Garfirth. 21, slept through a week of festivities - missing family gatherings, present opening, and even Christmas dinner. And now, having suffered from 30 sleep episodes over the past five years, Gemma fears she will miss this year’s party season. The student from Wellingborough, Northants, suffers from incurable sleep disorder - Kleine- Levin Syndrome, dubbed the Sleeping Beauty Syndrome - which sees her fall into a trance and nod off for an entire week. The rare neurological disorder affects around 1,000 people worldwide and causes extreme exhaustion, paranoia and hysterical behaviour.
